History

Kirby-Hulme, Law Costs Draftsmen, was established in August 1991 by Geoff Hulme and Andrew Kirby (Andrew commenced preparing Bills of Costs in 1983 and Geoff in 1986). Expansion was rapid, the business growing purely via word of mouth. Within 18 months the two partner/one part-time secretary business had grown to twenty staff. The business was incorporated in April 2000 and continues to attract a high volume of work, by reputation alone and not by advertising.

We appreciate that to meet the demands of modern litigation, Law Costs Draftsmen firms such as ours must offer a complete service. This extends beyond preparing bills and, as well as our dedicated negotiating service, we also encourage our clients to contact us if they have any queries relating to cost issues.

What exactly is a Law Costs Draftsman? "Law Costs Draftsmen" work out the costs incurred in a firm of solicitors on behalf of a client. The bill can then be sent to the court or the Legal Aid Board. Costs cover the solicitor's charges to the client and any costs payable to the successful party by the loser. Once you get a job as a trainee Kirby-Hulme, Law Costs Draftsman, you must take and pass the examinations of the Association of Law Costs Draftsmen.
